We received a warm welcome on arrival with complimentary tea and home made cake. Our hosts Mark and Pearly were so kind and obliging to our every need throughout our stay. The breakfast was excellent with plenty to choose from. Our room was clean and comfortable. It all added up to a very enjoyable break.

St George's is an excellent small hotel. - Rating 5/5
Mark and Pearly are very welcoming, and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was enjoyable. Breakfast, which they cooked to order each day was excellent. The hotel is situated just a short walk from the old village and the beach. We had a great time staying at St George's and would certainly book there again.

Lovely Hotel. - Rating 5/5
My friend and I recently stayed here for 4 days. The hotel is charming and the bedroom was nicely decorated with ensuite shower and toilet. Coffee, tea, biscuits and a bottle of water are included in the rooms also. Mark and Pearly, the owners, are a very welcoming, friendly couple and I would have no problem recommending this place to anyone planning on staying in Shanklin. The other advantage is that it is just a 5 minute walk away down to the Esplanade.

Having stayed at St Georges on a number of occasions we know before we arrive that everything will be absolutely perfect, a warm welcome, and the room always spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished.Breakfasts are exactly as you would as you wish, as much or as little as you prefer, served professionally and with a smile. We can't wait for the next visit, knowing that the service and everything will be just perfect and the same welcome.Thank Mark and Pearly

Superb Stay - Rating 5/5
Just back from a weeks stay and everything about the St. Georges House and the proprieters, Pearly and Mark, was faultless. Nothing was too much trouble, the room was clean and comfortable with a large Freeview TV and tea/coffee making facilities (biscuits, 'sweeties' and supplies were replenished every day). Breakfast was hearty and tasty, expertly cooked and presented with fresh ingredients. Car parking was great and being 'oldies' we made good use of the bus services to explore the attractions and towns on the Island.... highly recommend!

Exceptional customer service- Rating 5/5
We travel a great deal but I have to say this is the best place we have stayed for customer service. The owners could not have done more for us, welcome cake and homemade lemonade and a bottle of Prosecco as a surprise when they realised it was our anniversary. The most welcoming, generous, observant and accommodating hosts I have met - they seriously could not have done more. The breakfasts were incredible and the room was spacious, clean and bright. The clean every morning was appreciated and the hosts even gave us a breakfast bag the day we left as we had to leave so early. Exemplary. We shall be back!!!

What an amazing place to stay. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts Pearl and Mark who were attentive to our every need. This was our visit to the Isle of Wight but it certainly won’t be our last and we would not hesitate to stay here for our return visit. It is in easy walking distance of both the beach and the high street which leads up into the old village in less than a 10 minute walk. Not our first stay and certainly not our last. Pearly and Mark were excellent hosts. Ideally situated in Shanklin and for Island tours. Our room was quiet, light and with plenty of space. Breakfast was enough to keep us going until dinner time. Icing on the cake has to be Pearly’s breakfast porridge. Highly recommended. Try it and sample for yourself.

We have stayed with Mark and Pearly before so we knew what to expect. This time we stayed in room 5, which was a lovely spacious room and suited us perfectly.Breakfast is pre ordered and cooked perfectly, the service is good as ever, really cannot fault our stay in anyway. We visit the Island at a busy time as we come for the music festival, the hotel is always full , however, this doesn’t deter from the overall experience. We would highly recommend this hotel as a holiday destination , the parking on the grounds is also ideal.Thank you once again, I’m sure we will be back next year , if not before.

Many thanks to Pearly & Mark for a lovely stay at their guesthouse in Shanklin. As hosts they couldn't have done enough for us and made the stay a very nice experience. Everywhere was very clean, Mark or Pearly were on hand all the time, the rooms were modern and the dining room / communal areas were more traditional that really added to the charm of St Geroges House. Great hotel great location - Rating 5/5
On arrival we were greeted by Mark and and given good information about the local area and a very nice large piece of homemade cake. The family room was large and we spent time in there or outside on the patio with a drink from the bar. The room was spotlessly clean with a double bed and a proper single for our daughter. Tea, coffee and biscuits were left daily and nice towels and toiletries. The breakfasts were amazing and we always had a chat in the morning to discuss our days plans. The location is idea as it is only a 2 min walk to the cliff top where you can walk down to the beach or get the excellent Cliff lift. You can then enjoy the beach or walk on the promenade to Sandown if you wish. Also, the High Street is only a short walk where you can find lots of bars and diverse restaurants plus a selection of shops. This was a great stay for us we loved the hotel and the Isle of Wight and will be back again. Andrew, Tania and Sasha

Had a great 6 day stay at St George’s House. We were made very welcome by Mark and Pearly on our arrival and we’re excellent hosts throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble for them. The room and the whole house is immaculate and tastefully decorated throughout. The dining room was light and airy with a large picture window and all tables laid out with matching China. There is a good selection for breakfast and really enjoyed it each day and they are happy to accommodate personal requirements. There is a small bar at the back of the lounge which has TV, music system and comfortable sofa’s and chairs. The property is very conveniently located for the town, Shanklin old Village and the beach.I cannot think of anything negative which I can add to my review. The only which you should be aware of is the fact that there is a steep slope and steps to get to the beach, but normally there is a lift but is currently out of order.I would recommend St George’s to anyone and will definitely stay there again when we visit The Isle of Wight.

Lovely place - Rating 5/5
Just got back from St George’s house yesterday where we had an amazing 3 night stay. Mark and Gyöngyi are brilliant hosts and made us feel very welcome. Being Hungarian, Gyöngyi cooked us some traditional Hungarian food and baked some very tasty cakes and desserts.Shanklin is a good choice if travelling with younger children and St George’s House is a stone’s throw away from the beach, town centre and Shanklin Chine. The communication prior to our journey was outstanding. Menus were sent, our ferry ticket was booked by Mark and Gyöngyi.

A perfect place to stay - Rating 5/5
Everything about a stay here was just right.the building is attractive and immaculate outside and inside. Parking is easily available. It a very short walk into the centre of Shanklin Village or to the cliff top for views or the lift or stairs to the beach. Breakfast choice was varied, excellent and the quality food was cooked and presented to perfection. The owners could not have been more friendly and helpful and you felt welcomed into their home not just staying in a hotel. Other guests we spoke to had stayed before and I can see why. They organised our car ferry booking and as a result we had a considerable discount on what we would have paid ourselves. At a time when people are in great need of a break with so many restrictions elsewhere you deserve to treat yourself somewhere where safe environment and excellent value are provided.

Our stay at St Geroges was pleasant and comfortable. Many thanks to Mark and his partner who were very accommodating and helpful. They also offered us a late checkout as our ferry was due at 3.00 p.m. They voluntarily offered us extra time so we could do some more signtseeing and still be able to freshen up before finally leaving.Much appreciate their warm and friendly welcome

Enjoyable stay. - Rating 5/5
Recently returned from a 4 night stay at the StGeorge’s . The hotel its self is a lovely former Victorian house set back from the main Shanklin beach which can be reached easily via paths down to the front. The trip back up is a fairly steep climb, however should you need to drive (its really not far) then there is a car park along the front. The village centre is only a short walk too.The hotel is comfortable and well kept, it is very obvious the owners Mark & Pearly take pride in keeping the establishment in top condition. They were excellent hosts throughout our stay , very attentive and always willing to chat with you if you wished. The food they prepared was always tasty and Mark is THE egg expert ! Our room although a little small was clean and comfortable with a good shower. The bed felt just right for us and the large window let in plenary of light. All in all we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for your stay in Shanklin.

Amazing time - Rating 5/5
St George’s House exceeded our expectations. My friend and I stayed for 4 nights and we had an amazing time. We received a very warm welcome with a home-baked banana pie and a nice coffee. The room was bright and beautiful and everything was spotless. The bed was very comfortable with a soft mattress topper. There was a varied choice of breakfast including vegetarian options (Pearly’s home-made pancakes with Nutella and strawberries were absolutely delicious). The hosts are simply amazing…. So kind and caring! Thank you for making us feel so welcome!

Right from the start we were welcomed and extremely well looked after by Mark & Pearly. Greeted with a lovely pot of tea and a selection of cakes to aid our booking in process. Throughout our stay everything had been thought of ahead of time so we never needed to ask for anything. Each morning we enjoyed a sumptuous breakfast expertly prepared with Pearly even creating bespoke crepes for our daughter. My wife and I highly recommend this beautiful place. We are already searching our packed calendar for an opportunity to return. Thank you Mark & Pearly for looking after us so well.

Excellent- Rating 5/5
We were a little apprehensive about staying in a hotel just after the lockdowns had been relaxed but COVID-19 was still possible to catch. The precautions and the systems in place that Mark and Pearl of St. George’s House had undertaken put us greatly at ease. The service we received was excellent. The hotel has that old style feel to it, full of charm and friendliness. We were in the Isle if Wight celebrating my daughter’s birthday, Pearl baked us a complimentary cake and we were given a bottle of bubbly. The rooms were clean and tidy. The breakfast was delicious and filling. The only minor issue was that the water pressure in the shower in our room was a little on the low side. However this was in our room only, the other two rooms we had booked were fine.We were also given good tips on what to see and do in the IOW.We highly recommend staying here.

Visitors from Harrow & Los Angeles - Rating 4/5
Three of us stayed the nights of 2 & 3 September in a twin double and a small single. We were earlier than check in at 2pm but we enjoyed the cakes and the fruit juices in a very nice big well equipped residents lounge while our rooms were quickly made ready. The rooms were clean & airy & the beds very comfortable for a good nights sleep. The rooms got serviced while we're away. Mark was a perfect host & we had very good chats about our experiences of the world near & far. We enjoyed the varied b/f and wide choice of the preserves. If one wants to know more about the original naturalist James Sowerby(1757-1822 & Marks ancestor) this is the place. All in all an utterly delightful guesthouse of good value for money worth a return visit only to meet the baker hostess Pearly( hope you enjoyed Hungary).

St georges house is just something else. The hospitality provided by Pearly &Mark is truly amazing. Never have we stayed at such a place where the hospitality is truly exceptional. We were made to feel very welcome with home made lemonade and creme puffs on arrival. An immaculate room and a fantastic breakfast. We were vegetarian and on day 1 they didnt have veg sausages but Pearly made a potatoe gratin and some herb sauteed variety tomatoes. And the next day they ensured vegetarian sausages were available. We were constantly asked if everything was ok and if there was anything else they could get us for breakfast. Mark and Pearly are so gracious and hospitable. St georges is truly a wonderful place to make as your base. Do not hesitate to book!

A warm welcome awaited us on our arrival with the offer of tea/coffee and home-made crepes. The bedroom was very clean and comfortable. There was a wide choice of breakfast options.Mark were Pearly were perfect hosts; friendly and always ready to share their local knowledge. A great hotel, well appointed for the beach, town centre, old village and picking up the coastal walk paths.

Short break - Rating 4/5
We were warmly welcomed with tea and cake by Mark and Pearly. St George's is in a pleasant and conveniently situated road. The house is immaculate and downstairs rooms are well-appointed. Our bedroom was nicely furnished and comfortable although one night was very cold due to the heating having broken down. It was such a shame and unexpected. The owners apologised but it was a difficult situation for them. It is always a problem to get a plumber instantly. We went to bed early to get warm and watch tv. No reception!! We decided to cut short our holiday as my husband wasn't well overnight and wanted to get home. The owners were kind and considerate and we were so sorry to leave. The breakfasts were excellent and the scrambled egg the best I have ever had in an hotel!! We wouldn't hesitate to recommend St George's.

Very well furnished and comfortable house. Mark and Pearly were very welcoming and helpful. The breakfasts were excellent and nicely served in the dining room. The only downside was the heating had broken down and it was cold but this would be a temporary problem. The TV reception was very poor in the room and unwatchable. But I would recommend a stay here.

Fantastic hotel & location - Rating 5/5
Firstly we struggled to find a hotel that would take children. What a relief when St. George's said they could accommodate our 8 month old baby. Secondly huge convenience having off street parking as double yellow lines all over shanklin. Thirdly excellent location being a few mins from town, restaurants and the beach. Next up what a lovely welcome being the only hotel that's ever offered me a cup of tea and slice of cake on arrival after a long journey. It was the finishing touches like this that makes a holiday. With bottled water in the room daily and 'normal' sized toiletries instead of those tiny bottles you sometimes get! Our room was spotless and good size for a travel cot. Large communal area should you want to play a game or watch a film. We were lucky with the weather so didn't need this though! The owner Mark was incredibly helpful before and during our stay which included booking our ferry crossing. Only complaint is we didn't stay for longer. Had no idea there was so much to do on the Isle of Wight and what a good base shanklin is.

We spent a week at the hotel and were well looked after. The hotel is most beautifully furnished and the decor includws personal china and artworks belong to the proprietors. We felt that it is a suitable place to bring an immobile baby or children over the age of eight. The breakfasts were sumptuous and we were well looked after.

Little gem!- Rating 5/5
This guest house is probably the best we have ever visited . The hospitality shown by the owners, Mark and Pearly is outstanding. Their attention to detail, lovely friendly and caring attitude are second to none. The rooms are meticulously clean, and are cleaned daily replenished with fresh towels, biscuits, chocolates and bottled water. A lovely touch when Mark and Pearly knocked on our door and handed us a bottle of Prosecco on ice and chocolates as we celebrated our 10th Wedding Anniversary whilst there. The breakfasts are amazing. Almost anything you could imagine, from fresh fruit salad, pastries, cereals, Pearly s homemade porridge with fruit, bagels, full English, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and and avocado, if they can possibly do it they will!!!!Plenty of off road parking and hotel ideally located near to village centre, shops and seafront. A little gem!r

We stayed with Pearly and Mark for a week and it was really great. They are both very welcoming and friendly and it felt we had known them for ages. Our triple room was very comfortable, clean and airy. The location of the B&B is great as it's a 5 minute walk from Shaklin beach and very close to Shaklin Chine and the old town. The customer lounge is very spacious, with lots of games and music to keep you occupied on a rainy day. Breakfasts has a lot of choices and the yoghurt porridge with fruits are a must try! When I am next back on the Isle, my family and I will be sure to re-book here.

delightful stay and most delectable porridge - Rating 5/5
Our trip to Shanklin, Isle of Wight, was truly delightful. This is was partly thanks to the way we were hosted in St George’s guesthouse. Upon arrival, our family received a very warm welcome from Pearly and Mark, who took great care to look after the three of us during our short stay on the isle. We were treated to delicious strawberry and Nutella pancakes and each morning began our breakfast with a delectable porridge with seasonal fruit.I could not help but take the recipe from the chef herself! The hosts pay great attention to detail; the rooms are immaculate and the hallways decorated with freshly cut flowers. The atmosphere in the house is truly amiable as Pearly and Mark make you feel at home. We would definitely recommend St George’s House to other couples with or without children as it feels the hosts’ warmth and hospitality is right from the heart.Maggie, Artur & Daniel

Wonderful Place to Stay! - Rating 5/5
Hats off to Mark and Pearly for providing us with a wonderful experience while staying on the Isle of Wight. From Pearly's friendly welcome, complete with freshly made tarts and cake, to the beautiful room which included lots of little extras such as fresh water bottles daily, chocolates, bathroom slippers, toiletries - even q-tips! The home-cooked breakfasts were amazing, and the house itself is lovely and interesting. But what made it truly special were Mark and Pearly. Our favorite memory of our stay was spending our last evening with our hosts and some other guests in the bar/lounge room, just talking and enjoying each other's company - and of course, Pearly's freshly made cheesepuffs! If we ever get back to the IOW, we will be sure to stay here again. And we've told our family in England to stay here as well.

A lovely guest house with fantastic owners - Mark and Pearly. Very focused on customer service and meeting any request. Clean comfortable beds and good facilities in the room - Tea, coffee TV etc. Linen and towels changed daily or as required. Excellent breakfast served in a sunny breakfast lounge (do try the specialty porridge!) and a warm and inviting guest lounge with bar. For those of you that like to touch history, it is worth noting all the shells and the watercolor pictures that adorn the walls - the owner Mark Sowerby has a great heritage story including the 'Sowerby Beaked Whale' named after one of his ancestors. Location is great within walking distance of all shanklin amenities - great value for money where customer service is never undervalued.

Plenty of information available on the island attractions etc.The only "formal" part of the day was breakfast and no complaints there, the usual selection of juices and cereals and juices etc to be followed by a cooked selection of your choice from a Full House down to a boiled egg, all wonderfully freshly prepared to order. Thanks for a great week.

Stayed here the weekend just gone. Greeted by Mick who is lovely chap who gave us a tour of the guest house. I'm going to say its a guest house more of a hotel as although it does have hotel facilities, it felt to me more like a B&B, in a good way though unless you were wanting a hotel bar to go and sit at. Mick gave a very personal touch to the place, from showing you how the front door lock worked, where to make tea and coffee in the room to even taking your breakfast order in the morning. Breakfast was very nice. I would stay here again. I recommend. Thanks.

Our room was very comfortable and the food first class. The location is perfect for the shops, the old town and some very good restaurants. We would have no difficulty in recommending this guest house to anybody considering a holiday on the Isle of Wight.

Top hotel - Rating 5/5
If you are looking for a good place to stay on Wight, do not look further. Better place I don't think you will find on the island. Central in Shanklin, and a Mick, the owner was very helpful.

From the moment we arrived the atmosphere was calm and relaxed. The owner greeted us warmly and instantly made us feel at home. The room was clean and well set up for a family stay. Breakfast was well cooked without any long delays. Overall it was a wonderful experience and would definitely be our first choice next time we visit the island.

Great place to stay - Rating 5/5
This is a comfy cosy guesthouse on the lovely Isle of Wight. Unfortunately i didnt get to enjoy it as much as i could have as i had a stressful family situation to deal with. Mike the owner was so kind and understand, he made a difficult situation that little bit better. Im very grateful. A cosy comfortable good value place to stay with a great owner, you couldn't ask for more.

Sheer delight - Rating 5/5
I stayed for 5 nights early June at the St Georges and found the whole experience very relaxing and comfortable. The room was clean neat and tidy with all the nice touches you would expect from a good quality hotel. I can highly recommend this guesthouse, the food was superb and plentiful. 10 mins walk from the centre of Shanklin makes this the perfect spot for exploring the island. Looking forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Valentines weekend stay - Rating 4/5
We wanted to go somewhere off the beaten track that wasnt too expensive so chose Shanklin for a wekend stay. The St georges House hotel is set in a lovely quiet residential area. The hotel itself is clean, welcoming and well maintained. The owner who we met on arrival was warm and friendly and made us fel at home. Our room although small was lovely, cosy, exceptionaly clean with fresh towels and tea/coffee facilities and a TV.Breakfast was between 0830 and 0930 and simply excellent.Would recommend this hotel, whilst not everyones cup of tea decor wise, the warm and friendly atmosphere and excellent spotless clean facilities would alone make this a recommended place to stay.
